THE AURORA BOREALIS TREK
THE GUIDE'S INVITATION: "There is no debate. Admiring the Northern lights in the wilderness and staying the night at a mountain refuge is a much more immersive experience than watching them from a van in a parking lot near a road! The Auroras Trek is a top package of adventure and culture in two full days! You get to explore the wilderness on snowshoes on a two-day trip, rediscover the beauty of simple life at a cabin in the Arctic mountains or forest of Lapland, see the Northern lights in an unique setting weather permitting, and immerse yourself in the Finnish culture of the great outdoors! Lappitrek is the only agency in the greater Levi area to offer such a Northern lights program!"
WHEN: From November to the beginning of April
DURATION: 2 full days
MEETING POINT: In Kittilä or Levi
DISTANCE: from 12 to 15 km total (option 1: public mountain refuge), from 8 to 11 km (option 2: private mountain refuge)
LEVEL: Moderate
ENVIRONMENT: This Northern Lights adventure takes place in the wilderness far away from any urban structure (both options). Winds are potentially strong in the fells (option 1), but not as much in the forest (option 2). Expect about 270 m of elevation gain (option 1), and less than 100 m of elevation gain (option 2). There are two dry toilets available on the itineraries.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Be able to trek in a snowy, icy, and cold environment. Have a good physical condition. Be prepared to handle well the necessary efforts to climb the elevation gain indicated above, and life in nature.

Day 1:
Around 9:30 am, the guide picks you up at your place.
We take a scenic road trip to the starting point of the trek.
We equip and prepare ourselves for the adventure. No worries, all the gear is provided!
We start hiking in the amazing wilderness of Lapland.
We stop for a lunch on the grill and enjoy a well-deserved break at a Lappish hut or a secluded rustic cabin.
We keep journeying, sometimes in the magic of the Nordic nights, until we reach the mountain refuge.
We settle into the refuge and rest by the fireplace.
We have a tasty homemade dinner cooked on the stove.
We have the whole night to dance with the Northern lights weather permitting.
Good night in the middle of nowhere!
Day 2:
Take your sleep and enjoy the warmth of the sleeping bag!
The guide prepares a solid brunch.
We leave the cabin to explore around on snowshoes.
We came back to the cabin, have a snack, pack and leave around noon.
We hike back to the starting point of the trek.
The guide drives you back to your place. This program usually ends around 17-18:00 (5-6 pm)

THE AURORA DINNER
YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:"A Northern lights show is a celebration of the magnificence of nature. There's no better way to enter into that atmosphere of a celebration than extending the magic of an Arctic night with a cooked meal shared in an authentic Lappish hut located deep in nature away from the crowds and the beaten spots of tourism. After a short and fun hike with lanterns lighting up our path, we arrive at a hut nested in the fells, in the forest or by a lake. The guide is quality time oriented and enjoys bringing warmth, comfort, and a soothing ambiance. Just imagine a crackling fire in the fireplace, candles sparkling in the hut, reindeer carpets and blankets, and the smell of a delicious dinner made of local and mainly organic products... As an extra dessert from time to time, we go out and observe the sky hoping to wonder at the amazing auroras. The guide shares with you some amazing facts about this incredible natural show, assists you in taking pictures, or/and shares his own pictures/videos with you afterwards. This Northern lights program is our customers' favorite!"

ENVIRONMENT: This event takes place deep in nature, pretty far away from any urban structure. The trail that goes to the dinner place is often maintained and easy to hike. There is a dry toilet available on site.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to walk in a snowy and cold environment in Winter, suitable for children

THE TRAIL OF LIGHTS
YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:"For this aurora trip, I'm eagerly awaiting to take you to one of my two favorite spots on a higher ground around Levi. I let you choose the distance (see option 1 or 2) you want and can hike in the beauty of the Arctic night. Then we let the spirit of adventure guiding us to these unique spots on snowshoes by the light of our headlamps, the sparkle of the powdery snow, or perhaps the glow of the moon and stars. Up there, snow abundantly covers the mountain, birches, pine trees, small fir trees, and the roof of a lovely Lappish hut. One has a roof that is partially made of glass. The other one overlooks the valley. Two different huts and spots, but the same awe. Now I'll let you imagine the rest: all of us gathered around the fire burning in the central fireplace, a hot simple dinner, and our eyes turned towards the beautiful horizon to watch the dance of the Northern Lights..."
WHEN: From November to the beginning of April, preferably on clear sky days
DURATION: From 17:00 (5 pm) or 18:00 (6 pm) until around 22:00 (10 pm) or 23:00 (11 pm)
MEETING POINT: In Kittilä or Levi
DISTANCE TO HIKE: 9 km (option 1), 3 km (option 2)
ELEVATION GAIN: 430 m (option 1), 100 m (option 2)
LEVEL: Demanding (option 1), easy (option 2)
ENVIRONMENT: This trip takes place deep in nature on the top of an Arctic fells. We progress the whole time in a remote area with access only by foot (snowshoes in Winter). It is a night snowshoeing trip.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: You must be able to hike in snowy and cold conditions. Evaluate if you can hike the distance and the elevation gain indicated above. Your health condition must be perfect (option 1) or good (option 2).

THE ARCTIC FOX RUN
THE GUIDE'S INVITATION: "There's no secret. You increase your chances of seeing the Northern lights when you're ready to save several hours of your night for it. Good news! I don't have a bedtime at 10:30 pm. I pick you up at your place in the evening and take you by car to one or several of my favorite spots deep in nature or in the countryside. Depending on the forecast, especially if the phenomenon is uncertain, we may have a longer car ride and visit other places along the way. I often select a spot where a hut or wilderness cabin can welcome and keep us warm when it's needed. Then we take the time to enjoy the special atmosphere of silence, wilderness, and those long sparkling Nordic nights. We treat ourselves with a hot blueberry soup sipped by the fireplace and times outside, wondering at the starry sky and the dance of the Northern lights. Also, I share with you some amazing facts about this incredible natural show, assist you in taking pictures, or/and share my pictures/videos with you afterward. "
