SANTA'S SECRET CABIN

YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"The iconic cabin of Levi is perched on the rocky hillside of the mountain. Everyone knows about it. Santa lived there. He has forgotten to turn the lamp off. Let's not get ourselves exhausted with the climbing. We can have a scenic trip in the gondola to Levi Summit first. Then let's enjoy snowshoeing down in deep snow and make our track until we find that secret place. Afterwards, I invite you to have a light meal in a hut. THE MELODY OF THE ÄKÄSJOKI

YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"The river runs just there in the heart of Yllästunturi National Park. We follow it for a few hundred meters and observe its flow under the frozen banks and between the snowy rocks that look like mushrooms. But above all, we take some time to listen to its soothing melody. There's no rush. We want to be in nature instead of just passing. Then we enter the woods. The path has that lovely look of being dug in the snow, winding around trees, and going lightly up and down. If we're lucky, we might see the tracks of reindeer, the Arctic hare, or the ptarmigan. One more kilometer further to find ourselves standing at the foot of the sacred rock and the mysterious world of the "saivo". If you're interested, I can also show you the river again from the top of a hidden cliff. Not many know about that amazing spot. Then it's time to warm up our legs on the many stairs that lead to a lovely Sami hut where we will take a light meal around the fireplace. The last section of the itinerary takes you among tall pine trees and back to the river for a final goodbye."

INCURSION INTO THE SEVEN FELLS TERRITORY

YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"I don't know of a more beautiful place to admire the beauty of the vegetation trapped in the magma of snow and frost of the Lappish winter. We go there to walk with eyes of wonder, at the pace of a reindeer, not to trail and reach high summits, even if the route offers some plunging views of the territory of the "Seven Fells". I find it unique to have a break and a warm cup in the hands in this Winter garden before heading to the hut for a more solid snack."

BEAUTIFUL LAPLAND

YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"In Finnish Lapland, we don't need high mountains to get rewarded with grand and breathtaking views. What an amazing world that unfolds when we reach the top of that small Arctic mountain! On so many occasions, it becomes a patchwork of lights and colors, mountains and lakes, bogs and forests. In every direction, there is so much to contemplate. On our way back, we stop in a large open kota and have lunch by the fireplace. Maybe you will also have the privilege to make a special encounter with the Siberian jay or the boreal tit?"

ENVIRONMENT: This snowshoeing trip takes place deep in nature, yet not too far from an urban structure. The route follows a beaten trail by the locals, but it's worth it. THE BLACK HILL

YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"Something is truly fascinating when you wander in the Hangaskuru Valley. When the sunshine in Winter plunges into it, it's to grant us the most gorgeous lights of the season, especially in January. Also, you can sense an adventure spirit when you realize that you're entering an inaccessible spot the rest of the year because of some spongy grounds and multiple creeks or streams running through it. For a complete experience, it is good to go to a higher ground and reach the top of the "Little Black Hill" from where you can admire the gentle lines of the Pallas Fells range and that valley we explored earlier. Over the years, I got to observe some neat wildlife up there among the snow-packed trees. I hope you receive that special treat from nature, too!"

MEETING: In Kittilä or Levi
DISTANCE: 5 km

Moderate
ENVIRONMENT: This snowshoeing adventure takes place in wilderness far from any urban structure. There is one shelter and dry toilets available on the itinerary.

PALLAS PERSPECTIVES

YOUR GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"This snowshoeing route is one of a kind. It combines a section of the challenging adventure "Five Fells Up" and a section of the easy "The Far North" hike. Because, yes, I wanted to offer you a discovery of the Pallas National Park like no other agency does, namely from different angles, among the most beautiful, I must say. We start at altitude with a spectacular view of the park's lake, and we conclude with a meal in a cabin on the shores of this same lake facing the mountains that we hiked earlier. A real day of in-depth exploration of an iconic Finnish park! "

THE CONQUEST OF KERÄSKERO

THE GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"It is a bit of a monument to conquer:  The ascension is never steep but continual. The environment shows its harshest side while we're leaving the forest behind us, and we're progressing in a forest of short mountain birch trees. Then the vegetation becomes rare. A small cabin built in 1945 guards the last slopes to the summit. We'll come back to it later today. But before that, we want to reach one of those Arctic mountains full of views in all directions of the compass rose. Panoramic views are worth the constant climb, which is rewarded with a hearty lunch in a kota before starting the descent."

WHEN: from November to April  (nice weather permitting)
DURATION: the whole day
MEETING: In Kittilä or Levi
DISTANCE: 8 km
LEVEL: Demanding

OXYGEN 11

THE GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"A few years ago, a local media outlet asked me as a guide which spot was my favorite one in the whole region. I'm in love with so many, but if I had to choose, I would answer this one, which I've called "Oxygen". It takes you to the top of a mountain where you can breathe the purest air in the world and where you just want to let yourself be amazed by the panoramic view of the whole mountain range of Pallas National Park. The view has a unique angle. You can't get it from anywhere else. The lonely trees exposed to the freezing winds and the snowstorms add to the landscape. After a quite demanding ascent, we hike down into the forest where a lovely hut is ready to welcome us for a solid lunch. Nearby, you won't miss that old authentic log cabin, which marries with nature so well. And just because it is so beautiful, we have added one more kilometer in 2023. Now you're ready to hike the "Oxygen 11" trip, a unique itinerary made in Lappitrek. "

FIVE FELLS UP

THE GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"And one! And two! And three! And four! And five! A tour of the five most beautiful summits in the region is on the menu for this up-and-down hike that only Lappitrek can offer to those who want to rock the day in a dream setting. This very sporty adventure is only carried out in clear weather to guarantee splendid views. During the polar night, these mountains are wrapped in pastel colors. Under the Arctic sun, the snow sparkles brightly on their slopes. At sunrise or sunset, these peaks are a privilege, not a chore. The motivation is there at every step. As for strength, we take it at lunchtime in a hut nestled at the bottom of a small valley near a stream. To leave stronger and gather even more memories."

A FINNISH DAY

THE GUIDE'S INVITATION:

"The true Finnish way of life is a good snowshoeing hike to the top of one of the highest fells in the area, followed by a long and relaxing time in a luxury sauna by the lake. We have created that exciting combo of two great moments of adventure as the sites of these two are separated by only three kilometers!  Save your whole day for this program, as we will try to rediscover the virtues of uniting ourselves with the natural elements and slowing down the pace of our lives. Indeed, that hike cannot be a round-trip rush to the summit. There is much to see: the wide-angle views of the lakes on both sides of the mountain, the immense taiga that stretches to the Swedish border, and the long range of Pallas fells. Likewise, a sauna experience cannot be a rush. We will take time to discover the different Lappish atmospheres filling the several sauna rooms, and of course, to take a few dips in the icy water in the lake's refreshing waters."
